Miroslav Garaj becomes Director General of the Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR)

As of 13 December 2025, Miroslav Garaj is the new Director General of Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR). He replaces Ivan Bednárik, who is now the new Minister for Transport in the Czech Republic. The new Director General has more than 25 years of experience at ŽSR, having held various positions over this period, from dispatcher, then inspector of railway transport safety, to Director of the Strategy and International Cooperation Department. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Žilina.

In relation to his nomination, Garaj stated “I believe that my many years of railway experience will be a valuable asset in managing one of the largest employers in Slovakia. I will do everything in my power to ensure that the strategic goals of this company are met, and I will strive to continue improving the established processes. I would like to thank Ivan Bednárik for his work and for initiating the recovery processes at ŽSR.
