The UIC East West Tariffs Group resumption meeting is held at the Polish-Ukrainian border

On 18 and 19 April 2023, the first EWT meeting since an online session in 2021 took place, with the meeting before being held in 2019 in-person in Berlin.

Thirty tariff experts from the Czech State Railways (CD), Deutsche Bahn (DB), LTG Link, MAV-Start, the Moldovian Railways (CFM), the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), PKP Intercity, the Romanian Railways (CFR), the Ukrainian Railways (UZ), the Slovak State Railways (ZSSK), the International Rail Transport Committee (CIT) and UIC representatives participated with twenty attending in-person at the PKP Cargo building in Zurawica, near Przemysl, in Poland.

UZ, PKP Intercity, and UIC opened the meeting by thanking all of the participants for joining in-person. Anton Pylypchuk, from UZ and Chair of EWT, gave a presentation on the SMPS agreement, then Jan Vavra from CIT presented the latest updates on European legislation regarding through-tickets. An important discussion also took place on the EWT SCIC on common tariff conditions for international journeys between the eastern and western parts of continental Europe.
On the second day, UZ presented its latest tariff information, and UIC Senior Advisor David Sarfatti introduced UIC’s latest interoperable IT solutions in the forms of eTCD, URT, DRTF and OSDM.

By organising the meeting to be held near the Polish-Ukrainian border, UIC aimed to show its members’ commitment to supporting UZ in its incredible bravery and efficiency during the war period, and to underline PKP’s continued support of its neighbour.
